I
got a late start to my action research project. In December, my position with
my school was in turmoil. The outcome of the situation ended up working out to
my advantage. It gave me a greater opportunity to focus on my action research
project. I was able to be more hands on with my students rather than trying to
teach them from a distance with the proper equipment to truly be a virtual
teacher. My project is based on the blended learning model. Now that I have
more face to face time with my student’s, I have a better opportunity to
implement the strategies I outlined to prove that the blended learning model
would increase our student’s academic success rather than them strictly working
the online curriculum completely by themselves and me being their grader.
To
date, I have completed at least 147 hours on my project. I have collected a significant amount of
data. Thus far, all of the data has shown that the blended learning model is
quit a bit more beneficial for our students than independent learning. Strategies
I have implemented include holding direct instruction on a regular basis,
incorporating a class website for the students to reference on a regular basis,
and providing one on one individualized instruction on an as need basis.
I
am continuing to research the concept of blended learning and determining which
concepts I can use in my course to further help my students with their academic
success. I look forward to presenting my information to our schools new owners.
